[R&E] Play for Thought: Components of Blood

Play for Thought is a program made in collaboration with the Davis Community Libraries. This program consists of a series of events which aim to instill the idea of a healthy-lifestyle in elementary aged children through hands-on activities. There are two roles you may sign up for. Presenters will earn 1 R&E credit (6 hours of transcript notation) and are expected to present a PowerPoint on the general topic and activity. Regular volunteers will earn 0.5 R&E credits and are expected to assist in organizing the attendees and contribute to educating them on the topic of the day.

Components of Blood: We will have a presentation on the different elements, such as blood vessels and blood cells, that make up our blood. The activity will involve making models of blood vessels out of bottles and jelly beans.

 

Attire: VN CARES t-shirt with badge

[R&E] Debate

Come take on your fellow R&E interns in a battle of wits and critical thinking. You will be split into two teams of three and debate over a preselected topic. This event involves a large amount of independent research that is done before the actual debate, so be prepared! Due to the intensity of this event, the winners of the debate earn 2 R&E credits (the losing team still receives 1 credit). The winners are chosen by the panel of judges, based on the structure and overall effectiveness of their arguments.

What: Relay for Life is a fundraiser by the American Cancer Society, interns participating will help us run/organize our booth. Interns will also join the walks and activities such as zumba, frisbee, etc.

-Please put down your name and the time you're planning to participate
-2 hours at Relay for Life = 1 PR credits. Interns get up to 2 PR credits
-You must join a team to stay overnight/participate on Sunday

[R&E] Elementary School Science Expo

Marguerite Montgomery Elementary (MME) School is hosting their 5th annual Science Expo, an event where local groups and organizations present science demonstrations and hands-on activities to students from grades Pre-K- to 6th. VN CARES has been invited to host an exhibit where our interns are expected to plan and run a 10-15 minute hands-on demonstration about childhood obesity and healthy food choices.

As the presenter, you will plan and execute the activities after attending two dry runs.

Volunteers will receive 0.5 R&E credits. 

 

Attire: VN CARES t-shirt with badge

Time: Friday, May 4th 8:30-1:30 PM

[R&E] Meeting Presentation #2

Present to your fellow VN CARES interns during the R&E Meeting. You can present on the topic of your choice as long as it is either health or science related. This is a great opportunity to hone your skills as a researcher and as a presenter. You will work closely with your Team Leader during 2 dry runs in order to prepare for your presentation.

 

Attire: Business Casual

Topic: Your choice! We just ask that it’s something health or science related.

April 28th Saturday Clinic - Primary Care Clinic

Hello Clinical Interns,

Thank you for signing up for Saturday clinic!

Please be aware that we can only take 4 interns for Saturday Clinic.

If you cancel without finding a replacement, you must notify us 48 hours before clinic starts. If you can find a replacement, you are able to cancel after the 48 hours deadline.

If you register or cancel after the confirmation email has been sent, you must notify the VN CARES Co-D. FAILURE TO NOTIFY US WILL RESULT IN A STRIKE.

Please remember the following when signing up for clinic:

Interns are required to complete 4 clinics: One Sunday Clinic and Three Saturday Clinics.

*IMPORTANT: One of the three Saturday clinics must be on 05/05, 06/09, 06/16. 

Dress Code: Clinic T-Shirt (gray) with nice jeans (no holes); Closed-toe shoes
Carpool: Self-arranged!
