[PR] Winter Clothes Giveaway

Attention all interns!

We are looking for clothes donations to give to those in need!

Although the Christmas season has ended, the season of giving does not have to! It’s time to finally tidy up the closet in preparation for spring cleaning and to get rid of clothes that haven’t been worn in months.

We will not be accepting clothes with stains, holes, or tears.

You can receive 1 PR credit for every 5 articles of clothing that you donate for a maximum of 2 PR credits, or 10 articles of clothing! *Note: A pair of socks count as 1 article of clothing, not 2.

The PR Leaders will be collecting donations at General Meetings or by appointments until February 27th! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

We will collaborating with Food Recovery Network again! You will be assisting them at 2 different locations, which are separated into 2 different shifts that you can sign up for on Evenbrite. You can sign up for either both shifts (transportation is self-provided; biking will take around 5 minutes), or whichever shift that’s more accessible for you if you can’t come to both.

You will first help loading up the Yolo Food Bank truck in Central Park parking lot with produce from Farmer’s Market. Afterward, you will move to Solano Park Community Center (Building 2500) to help with bagging those produce and distribute them to families and people in need.

When: Saturday, 3/9/19
Times & Locations: 

  • Shift 1 (1:00PM - 1:30PM): Central Park, Davis

Please be aware that we can only take 6 interns for this clinic.

[R&E] Meeting Presentation #2

Present to your fellow VN CARES interns during the R&E Meeting. You can present on the topic of your choice as long as it is either health or science related. This is a great opportunity to hone your skills as a researcher and as a presenter. You will work closely with a Team Leader during 2 dry runs in order to prepare for your presentation.

This week, you may present in a group of 2-3 people. Each presenter will earn 0.5 R&E credit.

 

Attire: Business Casual

Topic: Your choice! We just ask that it’s something health or science related.

[PR] 1/19 Food Recovery Network

We will collaborating with Food Recovery Network again! You will be assisting them at 2 different locations, which are separated into 2 different shifts that you can sign up for on Evenbrite. You can sign up for either both shifts (transportation is self-provided; biking will take around 5 minutes), or whichever shift that’s more accessible for you if you can’t come to both.

You will first help loading up the Yolo Food Bank truck in Central Park parking lot with produce from Farmer’s Market. Afterward, you will move to Solano Park Community Center (Building 2500) to help with bagging those produce and distribute them to families and people in need.

When: Saturday, 1/19/19
Times & Locations: 

  • Shift 1 (1:00PM - 1:30PM): Central Park, Davis

  • Shift 2 (1:30PM - 3:00PM): 2500 Solano Park, Davis

Attire: VN CARES attire, nice jeans or shorts (No ripped or distressed), close-toed shoes.

Winter Retreat

[R&E] Play for Thought: How to Not Get Sick

Play for Thought is a program made in collaboration with the Davis Community Libraries. This program consists of a series of events which aim to instill the idea of a healthy-lifestyle in elementary aged children through hands-on activities. There are two roles you may sign up for. Presenters will earn 1 R&E credit (6 hours of transcript notation) and are expected to present a PowerPoint on the general topic and activity. Regular volunteers will earn 0.5 R&E credits and are expected to assist in organizing the attendees and contribute to educating them on the topic of the day. The credit will go towards your winter quarter requirements.

How to Not Get Sick: We will have a presentation on how to prevent yourself from getting sick during this cold, winter season. For the activity, the kids will be carving soap with sticks and other tools.
